Good Citizen Gold Award won by Guide Dog Quince

Good Citizen Gold Award won by Guide Dog Quince

Quince is a 14 month old pale yellow labrador x golden retriever puppy. He has been bred by Guide Dogs and hopefully will be working as a guide dog with someone with sight loss by the time he is 2. Quince lives with his puppy walkers from the age of 8 weeks for about a year during which time he is taught the basic obedience commands and learns an acceptable standard of behaviour on the lead. He has to be socially well behaved, friendly and responsive to his handlers. Quince in addition to his guide dog puppy training classes has also benefited in attending the obedience classes at Chippenham & DCS from the age of 5 months and progressed up the various levels with successes at the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. He will leave his puppy walkers to start his specialised guide dog training at one of the training centres for 6 months before being matched with someone with sight loss for a further 5 weeks of training after which they qualify together and he becomes a working guide dog.
